Sometimes life can seem so heavy. The burdens we carry seem so big. Whether it’s small things that add up, or big issues that weigh us down. In the mundane, or the unordinary.
I vividly remember spring of 2011 – I was healing from a difficult break up, while at the same time starting to rekindle a friendship with Jeff, my now husband. My heart was heavy with grief over my loss, and at the same time budding with hope of my unknown future and the possibility of a new relationship. On top of that, I was concluding two years of an intense internship and seeking what to do next. Let’s just say it was a season of me constantly seeking the Lord and crying out for wisdom, hope, and courage to believe in His good plan. I came across this quote from Charles Spurgeon at this time that deeply uplifted my heart. I went searching for it again today, in hopes that it’d encourage your sweet heart, and to remember God’s faithfulness and trustworthiness for my own heart. What a beautiful thing that we can “roll our burdens” to God and wait for Him to act. He is our rock and our mighty fortress!
“Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act. He will bring forth your righteousness as the light, and your justice as the noonday.” Psalm 37:5-6
“Roll the whole burden of life upon the Lord. Leave with Jehovah not thy present fretfulness merely, but all thy cares; in fact, submit the whole tenor of thy way to him. Cast away anxiety, resign thy will, submit thy judgment, leave all with the God of all….The ploughman sows and harrows, and then leaves the harvest to God. What can he do else? He cannot cover the heavens with clouds, or command the rain, or bring forth the sun or create the dew. He does well to leave the whole matter with God; and so to all of us it is truest wisdom, having obediently trusted in God, to leave results in his hands and expect a blessed issue.” ~ Charles Spurgeon
Sister, are you needing a job right now? Desiring a relationship? Healing from a break up or conflict with a friend? Are you scared of the future, or the unknown of this summer? Are you needing a place to live, or worried over a family member or friendship? Are you struggling through the every day, working through an issue with your husband, waiting on the Lord for provision? Wherever your heart is today, we can commit our way to Him. We can leave our worries, doubts, desires and dreams at His feet- and wait for Him to act. We aren’t in control. He is. He desires for us to run to Him, leave our longings with Him, and wait. Let’s wait and see what God does. His ways are so much higher than our own, so much better, and fuller. He is after our joy and will accomplish His plans for us, for His name’s sake.
You can rest in that.
