With blow dryer in one hand and a round brush in another (just used one this weekend- life changer!), I was concentrating intensely on how to blow dry my hair like my hair dresser. You know—how they blow dry your hair with perfection—and quickly might I add! Let’s just say the Lord did not bless me with that gift—maybe when I’m 40 I’ll be able to blow dry my hair with half the skill as my hair stylist. (Thank you hairstylists- you are a gift to us all!)
As a typical woman, I was multi-tasking. With two hands fixed on my hair, my eyes were fixed on my phone. Bible verses were pulled up on my screen ready to memorize.
Verse for the week:
“Consequently, He is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.” || Hebrews 7:25
I said it over and over with each stroke of my hair that I dried. The power, truth and beauty of the verse made its way deep into my heart. What a beautiful promise the Lord has given us!
Have you ever doubted the Lord’s ability? Ability to save? To restore? To heal? To love? This verse declares that God is able. He is able to save to the uttermost- completely, fully, perfectly, 200%! God saves those who draw near to Him.
My heart began to rejoice. He has saved me. All of me. My past. My present. My future. He has paid for all of my sins. He has called me to Himself. He has given me new life in Him. I am His.
Beloved, you are His. He has saved you to the u.t.t.e.r.m.o.s.t!
And guess what? Jesus, sitting on His throne, is interceding for us. He is praying for us—always. Never ending. Right now. He is your advocate. He is going to the Father on your behalf.
He lives to do so.
He purposes Himself to stand in your place and bring your needs to the Father.
Amazing.
As I was mulling this over, I thought, “Man. If Jesus is always praying for me, how could I possibly give up on praying for someone?”
There are some people in my life that I have prayed for, for years.
Y—E—A—R—S.
Often I want to give up. Often I pray half-heartedly, doubting if God really hears me. Will my prayer actually make a difference? Will they actually surrender to Him?
“Lord, they’re so hardened.”
“You were too. You still are at times my child. But I am able. I save to the uttermost.”
If Jesus lives to intercede for us, and if God is totally able to save completely, how can we not pray for our loved ones?
Do you have a friend or family member that you’ve been praying about for a long time? Do you feel hopeless? Do you want to give up?
DON’T.
DON’T GIVE IN.
DON’T GIVE UP.
Continue to bring them to the Father’s throne. Continue to hope. Continue to love. Continue to share.
God is able, beloved. He hears your every prayer.
Let’s follow in our Savior’s footsteps, and continue to intercede for those in our lives. Today. Tomorrow. However long it takes. He intercedes for us always.
How does the promise that God is able to save to the uttermost encourage your heart? How does the truth that Jesus is always interceding for you change you?
Alyssa, this really hits home for me… I can think of at least 3 people in my life that have become difficult for me to pray for… not because I don’t think they deserve it, but because I have expectations of MY OWN that need to be pounded out and my faith put in their place.. they need me to pray for them because I needed others to pray for me. They did and they are and they haven’t given up on me. Most importantly, HE hasn’t given up on me and He never will… thank you so much for the encouragement .. I needed it today!
Thank you. This was SO encouraging to me today!!!!
You said it best Alyssa. Thank you so much for this post! Your blog is such a blessing!
Thanks, Alyssa, I needed that! Some of my friends and family member seem sooo lost. Praying for them a few thousand times but they still are 🙁 . Sometimes I feel like “God, can’t you just tell me if you don’t want to save them and get me rid of false hopes?”. I promise now, I WON’T quit!
