My Favorite Sugar Cookies - Jeff and Alyssa

137993176052049490_8kEFBoAI_cOne of my favorite Christmas traditions is baking cookies with my mom. Let’s just say that my mom could be the next Julia Child! She ROCKS at baking. Pies. Cakes. Cookies. Breads. Rolls. YUM!

Every year we make sugar cookies. We use her bronze cookie cutters that are in shapes of angels, reindeer, gingerbread men, a Christmas tree, a holly branch and a star. And then we eat them throughout the month. (Man, I’m getting hungry just thinking about them! Maybe I’ll whip some up this weekend.)

Here’s the recipe for the best sugar cookies! (It could be a Betty Crocker recipe actually! Not sure who came up with it…but it’s awesome!)

Ingredients:

1 c. butter

½ c. powdered sugar

½ c. sugar

1 egg

2 ¼ c. flour

½. tsp baking soda

½ tsp cream of tartar

1 ½ tsp vanilla or almond

½ tsp salt

Frosting:

1 ½ Tbs. really soft butter

1 Tbs. milk

1/8 Tbs. almond flavoring (or vanilla…but almond is delightful!)

1 c. powdered sugar

1-2 drops of food coloring

(To make frosting thicker, add more powdered sugar. To make thinner, add more milk)

Preheat oven to 375. Mix butter, sugars; add egg & vanilla. Mix in dry ingredients. Refrigerate until firmer. Roll out with rolling pin. Use cookie cutters to cut out shapes. Bake 8-10 min! Let cool and then frost.

Enjoy!
